Victor vs Victim Mindset

The first and greatest victory is to conquer yourself; to be conquered by yourself is of all things most shameful and vile.

Plato

We see it all the time in the news, victims everywhere. Victims of rape, mass murder, and mental illnesses, it is all too common to see. These people, maybe rightfully so, have a mindset following these events that leave them wondering if evil will strike again soon. Some live in a state of anxiety, or PTSD, which is why they are rightfully comforted by their friends and family and hopefully assured numerously that there is no more evil to worry about.

Those people are real victims. People with a false victim mindset are not.

False Victim Mindset

People with false victim mindset (FVM for the purpose of repetition in this post) are people that have not actually gone through a traumatic event, but convince people into believing that they deserve the same comfort as a real victim.

For example, people in first-world countries that claim that their success and happiness are hindered by an outside force, have FVM. These same people look at the areas of their life that they are not succeeding in (ex. finances), and place blame somewhere that is easy to (ex. the government) instead of internalizing.

It’s the simple idea that you can control any aspect of your life that can lead you out of your FVM, which leads into the next part: Victor Mindset.

Victor Mindset

Having a victor mindset, or growth mindset, is all about self awareness and optimism.

What is it?

Growth mindset (GM) is the mindset that you can control anything in your life, regardless of outside forces. This mindset is usually associated with people that change their life for the better, but it can also be something where you willingly have a trade-off in your life. For example, an aspect might be made more difficult (ex. social skills), but another aspect is doing twice as well (ex. finances) as the other is challenging.

Notice the difference between FVM and GM, you’re either responsible for your life or you’re not. Knowing that the federal government, or capital c Church, cannot affect your life satisfaction or success, should be a freeing thought.

Getting yourself into GM will lead you to success into hopefully all of your life, but something that you can guarantee is that you’ll know it’s all in your hands.

Avoid victimhood, and choose a victor mindset.
