“You can’t morph into a butterfly when you’re addicted to the praise of being a caterpillar.”

Whether the situation be with family, friends, or romantic partners, it’s common to fall victim to the people pleaser mentality. When you care for someone, it’s easy to want to share their burdens and contribute to their happiness. While all of this can be healthy, it cannot be taken to any extremes. We are not RESPONSIBLE for the healing and happiness of the people we surround ourselves with.

When we make this our responsibility, we become a living moving target. We find ourselves running around trying to catch the arrows that people throw at us just so that they can get the bullseye every time: people pleasing.

As you can imagine, this gets exhausting in a very short period of time, leaving us without any energy to cater to our own needs in this life, our biggest priority.

You’ve probably been praised for putting other people first; however, there’s a fine line between selflessness and self abandonment. Don’t abandon yourself to the wants and needs of others.

Invest in you, become the butterfly, and never settle for any praise less than that.

You’re worth the wings.
